CMGC Team Play Update

Team Coronado’s playoff match was delayed by rain until April 6. As players were driving to the course over the bridge, it was suddenly closed due to a potential jumper.  Several members of both teams were stuck on the bridge for over 2 hours and arrived just in time to play 9-hole matches. To make matters worse, our team only had 15 eligible players for the playoff, so we were one man short at El Camino.

Team Coronado put up a valiant effort against El Camino. Despite being a man short, we lost by the narrowest margin of 25-23. Team members were sad to see the season end but proud of what we accomplished this season.

CMGC Team Play

Team Coronado is getting the attention of the local golf community with its successful team play.

We participate in the SCGA Weekend Team Play and in the San Diego County Seniors Golf League.

The SCGA league is composed of clubs throughout Southern California.  It’s a short season with only 6 regular season home and away matches. Our opponents are Torrey Pines, San Vicente, and Steele Canyon. After losing our first match at Torrey Pines, we won 4 consecutive matches including two away matches at Steele Canyon and San Vicente. That set up a winner take all final match against Torrey Pines where Coronado prevailed.

Our first playoff match was against Balboa Park whose team has a reputation for winning year after year. But Coronado played tough and defeated them by a fairly large margin. Next up is El Camino CC on Apr 6. If Coronado wins, we would be the last team standing in San Diego County.

Our senior team is in a league with 15 other clubs in the county. The team has qualified for the playoffs for the past 8 years and has started the 2024 season 4-0.

These teams are doing their best to represent the CMGC and to make our members proud!
