Cancellation of May Semi-Annual General Membership Meeting

Coronado Men’s Golf Club Members:

As many of you are aware, the Coronado Men’s Golf Club (“Club”) is facing increasing uncertainty with respect to the current operator of the golf course’s restaurant and the transition to a new operator of that concession later this year.  Since the beginning of the year, the Club has been in negotiation with the current operator to control the cost of providing food to Club members on tournament days and to keep those costs within the Club’s budget.  Despite the Club’s best efforts, those costs have increased which has forced the club to change some of its policies, e.g., the lunch voucher no longer includes a tip for the restaurant staff, but, the Club has successfully kept these costs within its budget.  That is not true for the Semi-Annual General Membership Meeting (“GMM”) scheduled for May 8, 2018.

At the beginning of 2018, the Club budgeted for providing food and drink at the GMM, as has been the tradition, based on the cost the Club has incurred in prior years.  The current operator of the restaurant, however, recently submitted a proposal to the Club to host the GMM that increases that cost by more than 200% and refuses to negotiate.  As a result, the Board of Governors has unanimously voted to cancel the GMM currently scheduled to occur in May because the cost to host the event is well outside the amount budgeted and the sudden, unexpected notice of the increase makes it impractical to find an alternative location.  Instead, the Board of Governors has voted to use half of the funds budgeted for the GMM to increase the chits available to members during tournaments in the summer and hold half of the budgeted funds in reserve to be applied to the GMM scheduled for November 13, at a site to be determined.

The Board of Governors understands that the cancellation of the May GMM may impact those members hoping to play in the Past Presidents Memorial Tournament on December 8th and 9th which has traditionally been free to members who have attended one GMM during the calendar year.  The Board of Governors is working on an equitable solution to this issue and will keep the membership apprised of its decision.

Thanks in advance for your understanding.

President, Coronado Men’s Golf Club
