CMGC proudly sponsors competitive teams in two leagues.
Senior Team Play – November 3, 2026 Update
Team Coronado is the Senior League Champion. After barely making the playoffs, the team got hot defeating Chula Vista, San Vicente and Balboa to win the championship. We actually tied Chula Vista but John Hoffman’s eagle on the tiebreaking hole to Chula Vista’s birdie secured the victory. The team soundly defeated San Vicente and Balboa by identical 19-11 scores.
This might be the first time Coronado has been crowned as league champion. We had the best regular season record two years ago, but lost in the first round of the playoffs.
But now we can proudly say, Team Coronado is the 2026 Senior League Champion!!
The San Diego County Senior League is more than 50 years old. You can find more information about the league and the teams here: https://mrgstaging.com/sdcs/index.html. Its regular season goes from March through September followed by playoffs. There are 15 teams in the league and each team plays a home and away match against the other 14 teams with 6 players on each team in each match. Our team has a history of doing very well in this league. In fact, we can’t remember the last season we did not make the playoffs. We were regular season champs in 2024.
The team had a solid start to the 2026 season. Through six home and away matches, Coronado was 8-3-1 and near the top of the standings. Our second half was not so good with a record of 5-10-1. We finished 13-13-2 in 8th place barely qualifying for the playoffs. Playoffs take place during October and November.

SCGA Team Play
Southern California Golf Association organizes a short season from January thru March. Each league has four teams and each team plays a home and away match against three opponents with 16 players on each team. Coronado’s league includes Steele Canyon, San Vicente and Torrey Pines. Since 2023, Coronado has not had a losing record. Our team won the league in 2024, defeated Balboa in the first round playoffs and lost a tight second round match to El Camino CC. In the 2026 season, Coronado started with 4 wins and needed to tie or win one of the final two matches to win the league. Unfortunately, we lost the final match by the narrowest of margins ending our season.

An email announcement was sent to all CMGC members in October inviting members to complete a brief questionnaire if interested in being considered for the 2027 team.
